KERALA - CHULIYAR DAM

Chuliyar dam is located in the district of Palghat, Kerala.  The dam was built on the Chuliyar river, the largest tributary of Gayathripuzha. The river Gayathripuzha is the largest tributary of River Bharatpuzha flowing in the states of Kerala.  The dam located on the backdrop of Neliyampathy, the Western Ghats with lush green scenic beauty and natural vegetation.

Chuliyar dam is located in Chulliyar Sajinagar, Muthalamada South, Palghat, Kerala.  It is one of the five biggest dams in Palaghat as a part of the Parambikulam Aliyar Project.  It is highly useful for irrigating paddy fields in the regions of Elavanchery, Kollengode and Muthalamada.  It has its own catchment which is insufficient to fill the dam requirements.  The water overflowing from the Meenkara dam and diversion from the nearby Palakapandi ensures the minimum flow of water in the dam.

It takes one hour to reach the dam from Palaghat Railway station by car.  From Pollachi, Tamil Nadu, it takes 50 mins to reach.  There are no shops available nearby and Kindly avoid plastics to save the environment.
