Embarking on a road trip to the hills has always been an enchanting and rejuvenating experience, offering a perfect respite for our minds, often cluttered with a myriad of thoughts. To amplify the joy and fun, embarking on this hillside adventure with friends was the ideal recipe for an unforgettable journey. Thanks to our meticulous planning a month in advance, arranging our travel and accommodations proved to be a seamless endeavor. Our serendipitous discovery was the tranquil "Tirtha Service Villa" in Kerala, an idyllic haven nestled amidst the hills, promising awe-inspiring views amidst the splendor of nature.
To kickstart our adventure, we reserved a self-drive car in Coimbatore and made arrangements for it to be conveniently delivered at the nearby railway station. Each arrival in Coimbatore greeted us with a sense of wonder. The city's welcoming embrace came with its pleasant weather, warm-hearted locals, delectable breakfast options, and a distinct respect that permeated their dialect.
Furthermore, this city held a trove of personal memories and stories, all near and dear to our hearts. Revisiting those cherished places and reminiscing about old memories kindled immense joy and heightened our emotions, transforming this trip into something truly special.
In the morning, we indulged in a hearty breakfast at the renowned Annapoorna Hotel in Coimbatore. The food was undeniably delicious, though, in my personal opinion, it came with a slightly hefty price tag. Our journey commenced from Gandhipuram to Pollachi Main Road, passing by locales laden with countless memories. Within a mere two-hour drive, we reached Udumalaipettai and set our sights on the mesmerizing Munnar hills.
Before venturing into the hills, we had to pass through the Tamil Nadu Checkpost, and once again, at the Kerala Forest checkpost to ensure no illegal substances were being transported. The road was flanked by sprawling tea plantations, and a gentle breeze enveloped us, providing a rejuvenating experience amidst nature's splendor. Along the route, we stumbled upon a quaint tea shop nestled on the country roadside, serenading us with old songs, and the aroma of freshly brewed tea beckoned us. We savored the tea and continued our journey towards Munnar town.
To our dismay, we found that all the shops in Munnar were shuttered due to a strike announced by political parties in Kerala. We decided not to linger and pushed forward towards our ultimate destination in Poopara, which lay 35 kilometers away from Munnar. Our journey unfolded along the picturesque Munnar Kummili Highway, an exhilarating ride through the captivating beauty of the hills.
Upon arriving a few meters from our villa, a Vintage Mahindra Jeep appeared to collect us, adding a touch of mini-off-road excitement to our adventure. Tirtha Service Villa was nestled in the midst of an enchanting nowhere, enveloped by lush green trees and boasting a spectacular vista of the verdant world around us.
The unanimous satisfaction with our choice of accommodations set the stage for a scrumptious lunch. With prior arrangements in place, they treated us to a delectable and flavorsome lunch, more than sufficient to induce a peaceful post-meal slumber.
As we awoke in the late evening, we received a call that our close friend had welcomed a baby boy into the world. This joyful news infused our gathering with a new level of happiness, giving us a reason to celebrate and adding another layer of joy to our journey.
On the following day, we decided to take it easy with no concrete plans for our journey. Instead, we relished sitting together and engaging in conversations amidst the serene beauty of the Silent Valley. As the afternoon sun approached, we reluctantly checked out of our cozy accommodations, expressing our heartfelt gratitude to the hospitable staff who had provided us with delicious meals and a memorable stay.
With no specific route in mind, we set off relying on our trusty maps, heading towards the enchanting destination of Vagamon, known for its lush meadows. Along the way, we made a pit stop at Nedumkandam, where we indulged in a scrumptious Kerala-style meal. While savoring our food, we deliberated on our next course of action. Considering our aim to reach Coimbatore by the following night, we collectively decided that Cochin would be a more practical choice compared to Vagamon.
Cochin offered an entirely distinct experience from the serene hill stations we had been exploring. Our journey from Nedumkandam to Cochin led us along the winding paths of the Western Ghats, guiding us past the picturesque Periyar River. However, as we descended from the hills, the twists and turns of the narrow countryside roads took a toll on our stomachs, resulting in an uncomfortable journey. Despite the long and challenging ride, we finally arrived in Cochin at 9 o'clock in the evening and checked into our accommodation in Fort Kochi.
The following day in Cochin, we explored the scenic Fort Kochi Beach and visited a Kerala-style palace, originally constructed by the Portuguese in 1555 and later renovated by the Dutch. Regrettably, due to time constraints, we missed out on visiting the Historic Jew Town, renowned for its old-world charm, and the 16th-century Paradesi Synagogue.
Before bidding farewell to Cochin, we couldn't resist indulging in some mouthwatering Biryani at the popular Cochin Rahumania restaurant. The demand for their flavorful Biryani was simply astonishing. After relishing this delightful meal, we accelerated our journey towards our final destination, Coimbatore. And the trip ended with the good note of “next trip le santhipom.”

Viduthalai Movie Review: A Compelling Look at the Struggles of Marginalized Communities
Viduthalai is a powerful and thought-provoking movie that delves into the complex issues of social injustice and environmental exploitation. The film highlights the struggles of the marginalized communities and their fight for freedom against the powerful authorities.
The opening scene of the movie, a train accident caused by a bomb blast, sets the tone for the intense and gripping plot. The single-shot sequence captured the audience's attention and created a sense of urgency to find out what caused the disaster.
Soori as Kumerasan, a police driver, is portrayed as a complex character torn between his duty and his conscience. He is exposed to the harsh reality of the government's oppression of the tribal communities and the brutal treatment meted out by the senior police officials. Kumerasan's character is made more poignant when he falls in love with a tribal girl after saving her life.
The film raises critical issues about the state's development policies that focus on the exploitation of natural resources to improve the economy. This has resulted in the displacement of the tribal population from their habitats, leading to their vulnerability to exploitation, extreme poverty, and chronic malnourishment. The tribal resistance against the invasion and development projects initiated by the government is a recurring theme in the film.
The movie's title, Viduthalai, meaning freedom, symbolizes the aspirations of the marginalized communities to break free from the shackles of oppression and exploitation. The conflict between the government and the revolutionary group headed by Perumal, played by Vijay Sethupathi, reflects the harsh realities of the struggle for freedom.
Overall, Viduthalai is a must-watch movie that is both compelling and informative. The film highlights the struggles of the marginalized communities against the powerful authorities and brings to light the issues of social injustice and environmental exploitation. It is a thought-provoking movie that will leave a lasting impression on the audience.
Taking a long solo road trip on a Royal Enfield machine is a dream for many enthusiasts of all ages. The thought of embarking on an extensive journey stuck in my mind, and I decided to take a road trip to Tadipatri, a small town in the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, located on the banks of the River Pennar. This town has a rich history and has been ruled by major dynasties such as Chalukyas, Hoysalas, and the Vijayanagar empire. Tadipatri's cultural treasures are the Chintala Venkataramana Swami Temple and Bugga Ramalingeshwara Swamy Temple.
Starting my ride in Chennai, I took the NH16 Chennai Guntur Highway route. After traveling around 130km, I stopped at the tea spot at Gudur junction, where I sipped a hot Irani Chai, which has a unique sweet and creamy taste. The ride was enjoyable, and after leaving the highway, I crossed several villages en route to Rapur, which is 40km away from Gudur Junction. Although the road condition was poor with a bumpy road ahead, the scenic beauty in the countryside energized my mind.
There were two routes to Tadipatri: one was taking a straight route towards Rajampet and Kadapa, and the other was taking a right from Rapur to reach Badvel. I chose the latter and rode towards Badvel, which is 100km from Rapur. Riding along the Badvel route, I concluded that it was the right decision. It's the best route for a smooth and quick ride, with less traffic, some twisty bends, many glorious straights, forest vegetation, and pleasant scenery while crossing the Pennar River flowing under the bridge.
On reaching Badvel in the afternoon, I found a restaurant along the highway where a crowd was gathered, which notified me of the Minimum Guarantee for food taste. I ordered Briyani without an egg and chicken, fondly called “Empty Briyani” which cost around ₹70. The quantity of biryani was huge, and I just had half of what was given and packed the rest. Luckily, a needy person waited outside the restaurant, and the packed food reached him to resolve his hunger.
The ride continued towards Gandikota, known as the Grand Canyon of India, which is 100km away from Badvel. To reach Gandikota, one has to reach Jammalamadugu through NH67. The ride between Jammalamadugu to Gandikota held me spellbound by its beautiful landscape. That 10 km ride to Gandikota is fascinating and captivating for the eyes. On reaching the historical fort, a passerby tourist casually told me, “You have finally reached,” which gave me a sense of little accomplishment in life.
Gandikota is a small village in the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, called as Grand Canyon of India. The significance of the place is the century-old Gandikota Fort surrounded by the River Pennar gorges. There are several structures and amazing spots that can be seen in Gandikota such as the Pennar Gorge viewpoint, Madhavaraya Temple, Jamia Masjid, Granary, Jail and ruins of temples. The place must be on your travel bucket list for the mesmerizing view from the Gorge viewpoint and various adventure activities. The natural structure and its beauty of Gorges is beyond our imagination and highly captivating. When you stand at the Gorge viewpoint and look at the beauty of the river and the rocky walls, the visual beauty will make you think about the value of the distance that you covered to reach the extraordinary destination.
After spending some quality time in the village of Gandikota, I continued my ride towards Muddanur. The ride between Gandikota and Muddanur was simply amazing, with a unique terrain featuring a straight road on the valley. The thirty-kilometer ride left me fascinated with the breathtaking scenery, which intertwined different shades of brown over the hills. However, as they say, unexpected happenings can add to the thrill of travel, and that's precisely what happened during my ride en route to Tadipatri from Muddanur. My rear wheel punctured, and I had to deal with a breakdown midway. While pondering over how to handle the situation, a passerby along the highway gave me some confidence, assuring me that there would be a puncture shop after one kilometer.
With the passerby's words in mind, I slowly rode forward before it got completely dark in the evening. However, the entire stretch to the puncture shop seemed longer than my entire travel, which was a bit frustrating. But I kept my cool, and thanks to the mechanic at the puncture shop, I was able to repair the tyre. Five to six villagers from Kondapuram village also helped me make things right, and their kindness left a lasting impression on me. They cautioned me about heavy vehicles coming from the opposite direction en route to Tadipatri after sunset, which I appreciated.
Once everything was in order, I resumed my ride from Kondapuram to Tadipatri. Finally, I reached the town of Tadipatri after an hour and had a wonderful sleep.
The following day, I embarked on a thrilling adventure, exploring the famous temples in Tadipatri and marveling at the breathtaking Alur Kona waterfalls. However, the highlight of my day was undoubtedly my visit to the Belum Caves, which were not only the longest but also the largest caves I had ever seen. These awe-inspiring caves are renowned for their stunning Stalactite and Stalagmite formations and are located beneath vast agricultural fields. As I traversed through the numerous pathways and freshwater tunnels that extended almost 3 km, I was completely mesmerized by the natural wonder before me. After an exhilarating day of exploration, I took a relaxing ride to the stunning Owk Reservoir, surrounded by majestic mountains. As I watched the sun slowly descend below the horizon, I felt at peace with the world, content in the knowledge that I had experienced some of the most spectacular sights that nature had to offer.
The Happy Solo Trip - an adventure that holds deeper meanings and endless possibilities. It's about embracing every moment, without the pressure of expectations. What truly makes it an unforgettable experience is the kindness and love you receive from strangers on the road.
As I reflect on my journey, I realize that this trip is not just about exploring new places, but also about discovering the beauty within. It's a journey of self-discovery and inner peace.
The memories of the breathtaking landscapes, the unexpected detours, and the warm hospitality of the locals will always hold a special place in my heart.
So, to all the fellow adventurers out there, I encourage you to take that leap of faith and embark on a solo trip. It may not be easy, but the rewards are truly priceless.
And to those who have been a part of my journey, thank you for making it even more special. Your kindness and support will never be forgotten.
Here's to more adventures and discovering the beauty of the unknown! Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Your support means the world to me.
