Goa had been on our travel bucket list for a long time. In November, we finally decided that January would be the perfect time for the trip. We booked our flights, planned a six-day itinerary, and eagerly counted down the days.
Goa has two major airports—Manohar International Airport in North Goa and Dabolim Airport in South Goa. Since we had already booked our apartment in Dabolim for the first three days of our trip, flying into Dabolim Airport was the most convenient choice. It also gave us a great base to comfortably explore South Goa and nearby parts of North Goa.
Day 1 – Arriving in Goa
Our flight departed from Chennai at 5:40 PM and landed at Dabolim Airport around 7:10 PM. The journey was so smooth that we hardly realized we had reached Goa.
After stepping outside the airport, we discovered that ride-hailing apps like Ola and Uber weren't available. A short walk downhill brought us to the local taxi stand, so we took a taxi to our apartment.
The apartment was exactly what we needed. It had two spacious bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, utensils, a television, and a large swimming pool. Since it was only a few minutes from the airport, reaching it after our flight was effortless. We relaxed for the night, excited for the adventures ahead.
Day 2 – Authentic Goan Food and the Colorful Streets of Fontainhas
The next morning, our rental car was delivered directly to the apartment. Around 11 AM, we drove to Kokum Curry, a popular restaurant known for authentic Goan cuisine.
Lunch was a feast. We enjoyed Goan fish curry, prawns, crab, chapati, rice, and fresh vegetable salads. Every bite reflected Goa's rich coastal flavors.
With our stomachs full, we headed to Fontainhas, the historic Latin Quarter of Panjim. Walking through its narrow streets felt like stepping into another era. The colorful Portuguese-style houses, charming balconies, vibrant doors, and peaceful lanes beautifully showcased Goa's colonial heritage.
Before leaving, we stopped at the famous Confeitaria Bakery for freshly baked pastries. It was the perfect sweet ending to our afternoon.
By evening, we reached Candolim Beach. The beach had an amazing vibe. We parked close to the shore, walked barefoot on the sand, enjoyed the sea breeze, watched the sunset, and had dinner before returning to our apartment.
Day 3 – Bollywood Roads, Chapora Fort, and Stunning Views
We started the morning with an hour of swimming in the apartment's pool before driving towards North Goa.
On the way, we stopped at the famous coconut tree-lined road featured in the Bollywood movie Dear Zindagi, where Shah Rukh Khan cycles with Alia Bhatt. Surrounded by towering coconut trees, it has become a favorite photo stop for visitors. Standing there instantly brought back memories of the movie.
Our next stop was the iconic Chapora Fort, made famous by Dil Chahta Hai. After parking the car, we climbed the short 300-meter uphill trail. The climb was rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Vagator Beach, the Chapora River, rolling green hills, and the endless Arabian Sea. It was one of those places where words simply weren't enough.
While walking back down, we bought freshly squeezed lemon juice from local women selling refreshments. After the climb, it tasted incredibly refreshing.
From there, we drove to Anjuna Beach, spent a relaxing evening by the sea, and then made our way back to Dabolim. The drive itself was enjoyable, especially across the magnificent Zuari River Cable-Stayed Bridge, one of Goa's most impressive engineering landmarks.
Day 4 – A Peaceful Stay at Wild Berry Resort
It was time to move to our second accommodation. We had booked Wild Berry Resort near Agonda through Agoda, about 63 kilometers away.
The drive was beautiful, and we stopped along the way for fresh tender coconut water from a roadside stall.
The resort was surrounded by lush greenery. As we entered, the reception stood on one side and the restaurant on the other. Tree-lined pathways led to private villas tucked away among nature. Our villa was spacious, with a comfortable bedroom, television, refrigerator, and everything we needed. A large green lawn stretched out in front, while peaceful hills rose behind it.
After checking in, we headed straight to Agonda Beach, enjoyed lunch at one of the beach shacks overlooking the sea, and later took a refreshing swim in the ocean. The evening was spent relaxing on the lawn outside our villa, enjoying the cool breeze and peaceful surroundings.
Day 5 – Hidden Beaches, Village Roads, Wildlife, and Backwaters
The day began with a delicious breakfast at the resort before we started exploring South Goa without any fixed itinerary.
Our first stop was Galgibaga Beach, one of Goa's quietest and cleanest beaches. Only a few visitors were there. Lifeguards watched over the beach while some foreign travelers swam and others simply sat enjoying the peaceful surroundings. With no commercial activity nearby, it felt untouched and incredibly relaxing.
Instead of taking the highway, we chose the village roads. It turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip. We passed through beautiful villages like Poinguinim, where lush paddy fields, coconut groves, and peaceful countryside reminded us of rural Kerala. Parts of the drive ran alongside the Galgibaga River, making it even more scenic.
On the way to Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, we met a foreign traveler walking along the forest road. We offered him a ride, and during the journey he shared stories about traveling across India for months while working remotely and staying in hostels. It was a fascinating conversation.
When we reached Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, the forest guards informed us that we had missed purchasing the entry tickets at the main entrance while driving in. Without realizing it, we had continued all the way to the sanctuary gate. The ticket counter was located nearly five kilometers back. Since we weren't sure if we had enough time to return before closing, we decided to skip the visit and continue our journey. Before leaving, we dropped our new travel companion at the main road and wished him safe travels.
Our final destination was Palolem Beach. Instead of kayaking, we chose a 45-minute boat ride through the peaceful backwaters. Surrounded by mangroves and rare birds, it became one of the most memorable experiences of the trip.
As evening approached, we returned to Agonda Beach for one last sunset walk. Watching the golden sky reflect over the Arabian Sea was the perfect ending to the day. Back at the resort, we enjoyed one final swim before calling it a night.
Day 6 – Until We Meet Again, Goa
The next morning, we checked out around 11 AM and drove back to Dabolim. Before heading to the airport, we enjoyed one final Goan lunch at a popular local restaurant.
Soon, it was time to board our evening flight back to Chennai. As the aircraft lifted into the sky, we looked down at Goa one last time. Six days had flown by, but the memories would stay with us forever.
Why Goa Captured Our Hearts
Goa is much more than beaches and nightlife. It is colorful Portuguese streets filled with history, peaceful villages surrounded by coconut trees, hidden beaches where the only sound is the waves, scenic road trips, delicious seafood, welcoming people, and unforgettable sunsets.
Whether you're looking for relaxation, adventure, culture, or simply a break from everyday life, Goa has something special waiting for you.
For us, this wasn't just another vacation. It became one of those journeys we'll always remember.
If Goa is still on your travel bucket list, don't wait too long. Explore beyond the famous beaches, take the village roads, enjoy authentic Goan food, and discover the quieter side of this beautiful coastal paradise. Sometimes, the best memories begin with a simple decision to travel.
